About me

Su Polat

I became a psychologist by graduating from the BA program of psychology at Ozyegin University, Istanbul. I have completed the internship program of Balikli Rum Hospital Anatolia Clinics after graduating from the BA program. Afterwards, I attended the MA program of clinical psychology at Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara. During the MA program, I worked as a therapist under supervision at AYNA Clinical Psychology Support Unit located at METU. I have also published a theoretical case examination about obsessional neurosis during those years. I have written my thesis about parent loss in childhood, women’s experiences related to loss and the effects of early loss on romantic relations of adults. I have earned the title of clinical psychologist after finishing the MA program. I was a high honour student at both BA and MA programs. English has been my academical language throughout my education, as well as the one I use for the most of my academical work.

As a clinical psychologist, I work independently and in agreement with therapy centres. I do psychotherapy with adults. I do face-to-face sessions with patients who reside in Istanbul and online sessions with those who live in other cities or countries. The orientation of my practice is psychoanalytical psychotherapy (click here for more information). I do psychotherapy both in English and Turkish according to the preference of the patients.

Parallel to clinical practice, I do both academical and independent publications related to psychoanalytic theory. Also, I translate the works of psychoanalysts from French and English to Turkish.
